Rather than call or email everyone individually, I figured I'd just write a post to update everyone on Kalia's tests. They did the ultra sound and the cathedor / scan and although the people that did the tests aren't qualified to give us her actual results (the doctor has to look at them), they all thought that everything looked good and normal. Her kidneys didn't appear to be large or mis-shaped, nor did they show any scarring from the kidney infection and there weren't any cysts on them either.
The 'fun' test was the scan, which came second. If we ever have to have tests done for Kalia again, we will most definitely make the trek down to All Children's Hospital as opposed to going somewhere that doesn't specialize in children's medicine. Instead of using an actual cathedor, they used a feeding tube (smaller). Kalia's still not taking a pacifier, but they gave us one to try and gave me the sweet-eez (basically sugar water) to squeeze into her mouth when she started crying. She freaked when they initially put the cathedor in, but actually latched onto the pacifier once we put the sweet-eez in her mouth. Everytime she'd start to get upset, I'd just squeeze a little bit more of the sweet-eez into her mouth and she'd suck on the pacifier again and calm down. I was expecting it to be about a billion times worse than it was! At the urgent care place when she was there she turned purple she was so upset. This time she turned a deep red, but it only lasted for about 30 seconds before she started calming down. Kalia actually almost fell asleep while they were doing the tests.
For the image tests, they filled her bladder with the contrast dye and then watched to see if it went up into her kidneys (they said they didn't see it happen) and then filled her up half way with it and squeezed on her to see if when her bladder wasn't full, but was squeezed, if the urine went up into her kidneys (they didn't think it did). Hopefully the doc agrees with the tech's assessment!!
Afterwards we walked down to Ashleigh's work area to say hi to her, and Kalia actually fell asleep on Ashleigh. She's laughing and playing with Daddy in the living room right now - so today was nothing too terribly traumatic - yay!!! I'll post again when we here from the doctor.
Thanks everyone for your well wishes and prayers!! We really appreciate them!!!
OK, disregard the message I just left you to get the scoop on Kalia's doctor visit. Should have known to check here first! Glad everything is looking good!
