Happy 43 week Birthday Kalia!

Gah, I'm having a hard time with this whole approaching the one year mark.  I can't believe how quickly it's all flown by.  I'm so glad I kept up with this for her first year...I look back all of the time in amazement of what an amazing little person we created.  She's made us love, laugh, smile, (and lets be honest...cry...happy and sad tears), more than we ever thought possible.  I have no idea what we'd do without her.  We love you so so much Kalia!

Alright, enough with the sappiness, onto her milestones for the week!

This week, Kalia:
  • weighed in at 20 lbs 12 ounces at breast feeding support group on Wednesday.
  • took her first step.  She took a step, I said "YAY KALIA!!!" all excited and clapped, and she laughed and plopped on her butt.  Oops!  She took another step later on in the week, and when I drew attention to the fact that she took a step, she sat down.  Soo...I'm ignoring steps verbally now and just keeping my excitement in my head.
  • will crawl away from me to play with other babies.  Normally if we're out, she makes sure I'm pretty close.  She's starting to get a little more independent and likes to check out things.  She still wants to make sure she can see me, but I can be out of her reach, and that's okay.
  • went to the park a few times this week on the bike.  She rode on the bike every day but two.
  • went to Publix on the bike.  She is really really funny in Publix.  I don't shop with her normally, so she's so curious about all of the things and the people.  I kept her bike helmet on her while I grabbed my couple of items (which is all I can carry in our messenger diaper bag aka minimalistic man bag that I throw over my shoulder before heading out).  She got a lot of comments about how cute she was with her little pink helmet on!
  • went in the pool almost every day this week.  It's still too cold for her to want to actually go in it, but she loves splashing around the top two steps.
  • walks while holding onto only one hand of mine.  If she uses two hands it's because she's on a mission and walks to walk really fast somewhere (she leads me with my hands).
  • had a play date with her little friend Reese on Monday all afternoon.  They played from about 130 until 5!  When Reese got there, Kalia was so excited to see her that she did her loud grunt yell that she does with her Daddy.  I told Chris we need to calm it down, the other babies are going to be scared of her!  They had a great time together and were super cute.  I thought by keeping her up and exhausting her, she'd sleep for Nancy for volleyball, but she went to bed easily at 630 and then got back up at 820.  Apparently she thought that was her nap.  Thanks for playing with her Nancy!!
  • was a little off most of the week.  Minus her morning naps, she's having a hard time putting herself to sleep.  She keeps shoving her fists in the back of her mouth and hollering and then choking, so I'm not sure what's going on, but my assumption is one day she'll get more than her two bottom teeth, and maybe that's it.  Or maybe those bottom two teeth are still bothering her.
  • has the slowest growing teeth or the smallest teeth in the entire world.  They get a teeny tiny bit bigger every day, but they've taken forever to come in, and I still don't think they're in all of the way!
  • ate plums and pork and was a little unsure of them at first, but after the initial feeding with them, decided she liked them.
  • ate, and loved, a grilled cheese sandwich.  I can't get her to eat cheese any other way!  At first she didn't like it warm, but the second go round she liked it better heated up.  As a side note, she eats 95% of her food cold.  She likes it that way, honestly!
  • spent all day on her 43 week birthday trying to talk.  Everything I would say she'd make the initial noise and try to make the full sound.  Normally she just makes random noises, but she kept looking at my lips and trying to mimic me in repeating the words.
  • is a suicidal baby.  She tries to kill herself every single day.  Most days it's by attempting to sniff the bath water while she's crawling around.  In a split second she will turn her face down to the water, and then grab up at me because she can't breathe and her face will be red and she gasps for a few before finally catching her breath.  When I'm bathing her, there's no more crawling allowed.  I'd really prefer for it not to feel like an accomplishment that she made it out of the bath tub without me having to perform cpr on her!
  • tried to break her foot on her 43rd week birthday.  I tried to make dinner with her before Chris got home.  She wanted to play with the stove, which I obviously didn't let happen, so instead she played with the pots and pans cabinet.  I underestimated how strong she is when I let that happen.  She picked up one of our heavy pots, took it out of the cabinet, and dropped it square on her big toe.  It took awhile to get her to calm down.  I finally got her to stand on it in the pool (she was having absolutely nothing to do with me trying to put ice on it).  She walked around the pool deck with me one handed and did fine with that, so I didn't take her in to have it looked at.  Her toe nail is purple and part of her toe is slightly bruised too.  Poor Kalia :-(.
  • likes to try to feed me what she's eating.  Does anyone know how disgusting black bean balls are?  We mash them into a ball so she can eat a lot more at once.  I tried to spit it out without her noticing, but she, of course, caught me, and thought it was funny and spit out her black bean ball too.  Great.  Fun times ahead with my diet!!
It was a full week this week...onto pictures!

"My Mommy is number One!!!"
Even with her toe and teething, we still had a fun week.  She's just learning so much right now and has such a cute personality!
