Kalia : 13 months!

The past few weeks have been big ones for Kalia!  She :

  •  cut her first top tooth in on July 3rd / 4th from 11:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m..  She wanted to make sure that both Mommy and Daddy experienced it with her.  Poor girl!  The second tooth is just sitting barely at the surface.  It's like a little dagger.  It makes for lots of mouth pain and advil and night wakenings.  I've actually felt like we were back at the very beginnings and no sleep most days.  She's up every few hours.  Chris goes in to rock her back to sleep, or if her 6-8 hours are up, give her more advil, so she doesn't get used to night time feedings again, but when Kalia's up, we're ALL up!
  • added back in that morning feeding.  She was miserable and whiney without it, so I'm giving up on weaning until we get back from our trip.  Between that and teething and Chris being gone, it was just too much.  I cut out the nighttime pumping though and she just gets cows milk during the day, which she's doing well with.
  • is funny about textures being stuck to her hands.  Oatmeal, a mushroom piece she picked up, dirt, or stickers...if she can't get it off of her, she goes crazy with rubbing her hands together until I help her out.
  • says hi to every single thing.  I know I've said that before, but now "hi" means yes, I want, what's that, and actual hi.
  • was cute with her Daddy when he came back from his trip.  She was so excited that she wanted to show him all of the stuff in the airport.  That's what she does when she gets really excited.  She points out other things to you.  Funny girl.
  • doesn't know a stranger.  She makes friends with all the little kids and people.  If you look nice and she's in play mode, she will come up and play.  No shyness here.
  • loves to point out "dog"s everywhere she sees them.  We were at the splash park last week and she went up to a rather large woman who was wearing a dog towel around her swimsuit and squealed, in delight "hi dog, hi dog, hi dog!!!" and yanked the woman's towel off.  Oiy.
  • loves bubbles.  She loves to catch and pop them.
  • throws everything.
  • is being super clingy with me right now.  I thought it was because Chris was gone, but she's still that way.  Just a phase, I'm sure.
  • wants me to hold her all of the time.  I hear "ut!, ut!", "hi" and "all done" all day long.  She says all done for actual all done and no.  If she doesn't want something she says "all done".
  • has to have an object in her hands at all time.  But only one.  If she sees something else she wants instead, she runs up to one of us saying "all done" until we take her initial object from her, and goes and gets the other one to carry around.
  • loves shoes.  They're normally her object she's carrying around.  She tries to put mine and Chris's shoes on too.  We're in trouble.
  • loves anything to do with water.  We took her to another splash park in Tampa for the 4th of July, and she had an absolute blast.  She still loves the pool and the beach too!
  • loves to play in the sand and knock down sand castles at the beach.
  • loves hats now.  We'll go to leave and she'll say "hat" and make me put one on her.  If we're swimming and she takes it off, she wants us to put on her swimming cap instead (pictures below!).
  • vocabulary consists of these words "hi, that, Daddy, Momma, dog, doggy, all done, hot, hat, maaon (moon), dahn for down, ut (up), eye"
  • doesn't understand that she can't walk down steps.  She's come within an inch of her life attempting to go 900 miles an hour down steps.  Oiy.
  • doesn't understand that she can't for really swim yet either.  We took her to another YMCA with a wade pool where the water goes from shallow to deep, and she thought it was GREAT that she could walk in the water and then just dove in to start swimming.  Her full head went under water.  Chris was right there and grabbed her up, and she had the biggest smile on her face.  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • loves swings and tunnels.
Enough words, onto pics!

Chewing on frozen veggies to help with her teething pain.

"Okay Mommy, what's this thing for?"
"To put in my hair?  How do I do that??"
"What do you mean I don't have enough hair Mommy??  What do you call THIS?"
Playing with bubbles on our morning walk after Daddy got home.  No, this sun isn't out yet.  We get up before that happens.

Fun time at John Chestnut Playground!

Chris has just as much fun as Kalia does some days!

One of Kalia's goofy new swimming caps.  She loves wearing these things.  In the second picture, she actually threw a fit when I took the cap off her head and made me put it back on her before she'd eat her food.  It's soaking wet!

4th of July fun in the pool!  I actually forgot the camera for the splash park (I know, crazy!)

Love the expression on her face in this one!

Hollering at Kodi, who's going nuts barking at Kalia.  When he barks, she goes "GAH GAH GAH!!"  As a side note, Kodi tries to fetch Kalia in the pool now.  She normally has her sleeves on, and he grabs the end of them and tries to swim with them.  Kalia thinks it's great!

Showing Daddy how she floats...

...and then how we blow bubbles.  Apparently that was a family activity that even Kodi felt the need to get in on!

Daddy kisses are the best!

These are with my point and shoot...

Kalia skyping with Daddy again.  She now walks into the office, asks to sit in the chair, and points at the computer and says "Daddy??" all of the time when he's at work.

Poor Kalia.  Between her Mommy and Daddy, she doesn't stand a chance at being normal!

"Okay Daddy, show me why this is so fun again??"
"Nah, I don't think so.  All done."

Daddy trying again...and again not winning her over!  It was really really hot though too, the shade was much more appealing!

"Hi Mommy!!!"

"Why are we all done??  I just needed a water break!"
"I love you that Daddy!! "
Splash park!  I had to get a picture of this - Chris always dresses and changes Kalia in the trunk.

They shut down the water part as soon as we got there because there was thunder rumbling off in the distance, so we played on the playground for awhile before they reopened it.

Waving hi to the little girl in the swing next to her who wasn't paying attention at all.  I kind of feel bad for Kalia when she says hi and the other kids don't acknowledge her!

Kalia literally went up to the gates around the splash park and rattled on them to be let in!

Having fun chasing birds!

Does anyone know anybody else besides Kalia in this picture?  Yeah, us either...

Daddy rescuing Kalia!

Splash park opened up!  Kalia trying to make friends with another little boy who thinks she's odd!

This was too funny not to capture!  Kalia's way of telling us she thinks we need a bidet!

...hat change.  The floppy hat covers her eyes when it gets too wet, which is why I got her the swimcaps.  She's still too bald to not wear anything on her head, and sunscreen + mini hair = pain in the rear!

In her cute hooded towel, ready to go home!  (Thanks Aunt Christina and Uncle Shawn!)

I'll end this post on one of my two favorite people!

I've got another one coming up shortly, this post is just already getting too long!  Daddy took the week off of 4th of July, so I got to take a lot of pictures because he could make sure Kalia didn't kill herself!

  1. Those swim caps are too cute! She will be swimming before you know it too...they almost self teach themselves how to swim when they love the water that much. I think Jason had Kaylyn swimming in one day once she understand how to take instruction.

  2. She just gets cuter every day! The flowery hat is too funny. I can't wait for Blake to be old enough to take to the pool :)
