- rolled, rolled, rolled, rolled. She grabs her feet and turns her body and then is on her tummy in no time. She can roll to her tummy from either side. We were so proud and happy with this accomplishment until...
- started rolling onto her tummy to sleep. We've heard this is amazing. Kalia let us know otherwise. She freaks out when she's trying to go to sleep and she turns on her stomach. She lets us know that she does NOT want to do tummy time during sleep time. We tried going in to flip her, but she just turns herself right back over onto her tummy and starts screaming again. Friday - Sunday nights were painful. No sleep, lots of crying, lots of going back and forth between our room and hers. I kept telling her that she turned herself and I swore I wasn't forcing tummy time on her. She didn't believe me.
- worked on learning how to roll from her tummy to her back for obvious reasons :-). Apparently this way is supposed to be the easy way to roll and from the back to the tummy is supposed to be the hard way. Kalia's got it all backwards! On Monday she finally rolled a few times on her own from her tummy to her back, but she doesn't do it consistently yet.
- can support her full weight on her legs and likes to do it!
- swims like a fish when she's on her tummy. She tries to reach for things, but she hasn't figured out that if she puts her legs up underneath her, she can move forward yet, so she just flails her arms and legs around instead.
- drools, drools, drools, drools. It's not normal how much she drools.
- went to her friend Harper's first birthday party and got to wear her Halloween costume for the first time! She's a tiger (look for bonus pictures!). She did really well at the party, and was smiley and giggly, and then crashed for 2 1/2 hours afterwards! Woo Hoo!
- decided on Sunday that napping was for the birds and she wasn't having any of it. It rained all day, so we took the desperate measure of getting in the car and heading to Pottery Barn Kids and Anthropologie. She got a new teething giraffe, and a new sleep giraffe that makes her sound machine noises and can attach to her car seat. She loves both of them! The car didn't work though, she took two cat naps, each 20 minutes.
- got her 4 month vaccinations on Monday. We gave her Tylenol before they gave her her shots, which seemed to help a lot. We also had two nurses come in to give her the shots at the same time instead of them back-to-back. (Thanks Monica for the advice!) Kalia turned purple and started hyperventilating after the shots, but it was much better than last time. We all stood there saying "breathe Kalia, breath". She didn't take nearly as long to calm down this time, and fell asleep for almost 3 hours afterwards. She didn't really feel so great the rest of the day Monday and all day Tuesday. I hate vaccines!
- gums are swollen, but there's still no teeth poking through. Her gums aren't smooth anymore either, but the pediatrician said it could still be months before they pop through, or it could be tomorrow. Holy droolness if it's months!!!
- weighed in at 15 lbs 4 ounces on Monday. They take her down to the diaper to weigh her, so it's pretty accurate.
Kalia's stats from her 4 month checkup :
Height : 26 1/2 inches (still off the chart)
Weight : 15 lbs 4 ounces (86 %)
Head : 42 cm (89 %)
For those of you wanting comparisons, at her 6 week checkup, Kalia was 23 1/4 inches (off the charts) tall, weighed 10 lbs 11 ounces (93%), and her head was 37.5 cm (80%). So she's maintaining growing tall like the jolly green giant, has slowed down some in her weight gain percentage, but her head is growing more rapidly. It's for all of the brains she's fitting in there.
Kalia had a semi-rough 18 week birthday. I think she wasn't feeling all that great still from her shots, but I did get her to semi smile for a few pictures.
