12 1/2 months

This last week and a half, Kalia has :
  • become quite the monkey.  She climbs on anything and everything.  She managed to get into Chris's truck all by herself while he was installing her car seat, pushed her pink car up to the daybed and stood on it and proceeded to try to climb onto the daybed in her playroom (I caught her mid act and rescued her), climbs onto the outdoor furniture and sits herself in the chairs, and unfortunately for my poor camera, climbed onto the kitchen chairs.  My camera was sitting in the middle of the kitchen table and she pulled on it until it got to her level...in two pieces.  My everyday lense no longer stays attached without me holding it.  Sigh...the causalities of having an over active toddler!
  • can reach the counter tops and the door handles.  She tries to unlock our door in our bedroom to head out to the pool (gotta keep it dead bolted!), and if the front door is unlocked, she can let herself out there.  She's also managed to get the unlocked laundry door open.  We've rearranged her playroom to have the baby gates across the whole back sliders (Kodi no longer has freedom to go in and out as he pleases - poor dog!), and then all the way across the front.  Kalia's spaces just keep getting bigger and bigger!
  • is actually growing hair.  Slowly, but it's definitely growing.  I put her sleeves on her for swimming and accidentally pulled her hair trying to get it over her head.  She was none too pleased about that one!
  • says "ut" for "up".  I'm working on the "p" sound with her, but I like that she says what she wants instead of just coming up to me and putting her arms up.
  • loves playing in the rain.  We had a grand ol time in a few of the showers that came through (that weren't too serious or windy).  If she sees a puddle though, she loves to run through it and splash all around.  For regular rain, I'm okay with it, but for standing flooded rain water, I think it's got too much bacteria in it!
  • has a new thing where she smashes her food on top of her head when she's all done with it.  I don't know which is worse, throwing it off the high chair, or smashing it on top of her head!
  • loves loves loves scrambled eggs.  The girl can't get enough of them!  I put spinach in them to sneak in a veggie.  I've got to be careful to not overdo it though or I'll pay for it on the backside :-).
  • speaking of backside, had diarrhea for freaking 13 days straight!!!!!!!   After day 3, we switched to disposables.  That was getting too disgusting for both of us with cloth.  We're finally (as of Saturday) back to solids again, but she's on and off running a little bit of a fever still (100), although her nose has thankfully cleared up.  She still has a big of a cough left from being sick too.  I think what's left is teething - or at least I hope it is!
  • loves to give hugs now.  So sweet!
  • had cows milk for the first time mixed with breast milk on Saturday.  So far, I think, so good.  She'll not drink it for a few of her feedings, and then chug it, so I think we're good with it.
  • started weaning on Tuesday morning.  I cut out the first morning feeding when she first gets up on Tuesday and just immediately put her in the high chair and then took her outside to walk around.  On Wednesday and Thursday we didn't go to the high chair (she didn't want to), and we just went outside for a walk.  She doesn't like down time, so I think the first morning one after she gets up is probably the easiest to get rid of as long as I entertain her with something else that's active instead.
  • says Momma now.  Not just ma ma ma ma, actual Momma.  Yay!
  • laughs this heckle fake laugh kind of thing when you tell her she's funny.  Silly girl!
  • has started throwing all out temper tantrums.  My hopes are that this is from teething.  For the most part, I just ignore them and calmly distract her another way.  She's been having pretty rough nights from those top two teeth, so she's over-tired too!
  • peed on the big girl potty.  I know, I know, too soon, but before we get a bath every night, I put her on it and we clap and talk about going pee pee in the potty.  Last night I went first and she started freaking out and running to the toilet and saying "ut, UT!!" and then started peeing a little bit on the floor, and I put her on the toilet and she finished and then clapped!
  • is having girls week this week with Mommy.  Daddy left at the butt crack of dawn on Monday morning for Glendale and won't be back until Friday evening!  We skype with him every morning, and she is so hilarious with it.  She talks to him and touches his face, and keeps climbing on the desk to look behind the monitor to see where the rest of "that Daddy" is!
  • says "dog".  Cept she says it like this : "daw-GAH".  She kept calling Kodi a "dod", so I started emphasizing the g everytime I said dog.   Oops!
 Onto pictures!

Trying to sneak outside!  I swear it was just yesterday that she couldn't even reach that knob!

Kalia and I on our morning walk.  99% of the time she wears her pj's.  100% of the time I tell her "no eat".  I seriously look like a crazy woman trying to keep her and Kodi under wraps...just ask Nancy!  :-)  Here's a series where Kalia kept putting her hand into a little hole in the concrete that was filled with dirt, and then directly putting her hand into her mouth.  After about the millionth "no eat Kalia, no eat", I decided if the girl wants to eat dirt, she can eat some dirt.  Maybe once the novelty of doing something she's not supposed to wears off, she'll stop eating it!  Apparently, she likes it...sigh...pica??

Talking with her little dog.

Hugs and playtime with Daddy.  I was messing with the settings on my camera here, so excuse the weirdness of some of the pictures!

Chris : "Ahhhh!!!  The snot bubble is going to get me!!!!"

She's really into this photo book right now.  We put pictures of all of the grandparents and aunts/uncles/cousins, and we go through and tell her who everyone is.

Getting ready to head to the Y.  She knows she has to wear her hat to go anywhere, so she brings it to me when she's ready if it's reachable!

"Mommy, Mommy, time to go!  Come on, put my hat on me and get the camera out of your face!"
"Um, I'm ready to play now.  Get the camera out of your face."
"okay, okay, i still love you!"
Playing in the rain!  I got really really cute pictures of this on my dinosaur cell phone that I can't send anyone, but you still get the jest with this series!  She thought the streams of hard water falling off the screen were hilarious.

Getting her some Kodi lovin'!

Kalia : "Kodi, I love you!  And to show you how much I love you, I'm gonna give you a hug."  Kodi : "Um, that's okay, really!"
Kalia : "Silly daw-gah!  Of COURSE you want a hug!! "  Kodi : "does it ever end??"
No words necessary.  I'm in trouble!

A few of our eating sessions.  First up, cheesy brocolli.  The mess was minimal!

Next up, greek yogurt and almond butter.  She wouldn't eat the almond butter on the bread.  She liked it better just off the spoon.  And she's a big girl now and wants to feed herself.  'Cept she's missing coordination, so we just make lots and lots of messes!

Taking Kodi for a walk.  Kodi actually walks Kalia when we're outside.  She stands behind him and waits for him to go and holds onto the leash as he's walking.  He also likes to pee on his leash, perfect!

"Somebody.help.me!"
More playtime with Daddy.  We put all of her dolls into her new tent that Granny got her for her birthday and we go in there with her to read.  So cute!

"What do you MEAN you're all done playing Daddy?!?!"
"Oh good Mommy, you're still here!"
More fun swim time!  She's getting pretty decent at floating, but only likes to stay on her back for a few seconds, then once I sort of 'let go' (I keep my hands floating right underneath her, I just stop supporting her as well), she gets all excited and flips herself back over.  She's got the hang of blowing bubbles in the air, and occasionally does it in the water, but gets too excited to do it too much!

This one just makes me laugh.  Such a silly face!

Her Granny got her this laughing cow thing a long time ago, and we brought it back out after our massive clean.  At first she thought it was funny, when Daddy and I were right there, and then she got kind of freaked out by it again.  We turned it off for a little bit longer!

I put those two pillows in the bathroom in case we had to duck for cover with all of the tornado warnings going on around here.  Kalia thought they were fun!

She literally got up, walked right in front of my face with the camera and gave me that big 'ol grin!

She is a mad woman in her jumperoo right now.  We have it set for her cousin Maddie's height, so Kalia bounces like crazy with it!

Skping with Daddy - day 1.  It's impossible to get a decent picture of it because I can't hold the lense on my camera for my good camera and make sure she doesn't throw the monitor or herself over the desk, so these are with my arm on her back and my point and shoot!

Chris asking Kalia where his head is.  So funny!

Giving Daddy a kiss (she does this too now - but she more so licks you!).

"Mommy, mommy, Daddy is on this thing!!!  So weird!!!  Tell him to come out, I miss him!"
More kisses!

Day 2 - getting ready!

"Talking".  She bangs on the office door all day long saying "that Daddy, that Daddy!".

Whew.  The End!
