Happy 17 week Birthday Kalia!

This week was a big one and a fun one.  Well, fun after we got back the negative test results!

This week, Kalia :
  • found her voice.  Her favorite thing to do all week was squeal and roll, squeal and roll.  It's really cute.
  • slept through the night Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Monday.  So far we're going about every other night, which seems absolutely amazing!!  She slept between 8-9.5 hours those nights.  I feel like a new person!  On Saturday night I finally didn't freak out and got a full nights sleep.  I had a little talk with Kalia and told her she needs to tell me when she's going to sleep through the night so I don't worry that something is wrong with her and wake up in a panic.
  • found and loves her thumb.  The thumb has been key in her sleeping through the night.  She'll wake up, roll to her side, find her thumb, and suck on it till she falls back asleep and then drops it.  SO much better than using me to do that!  I know some of you have qualms with thumb suckers, but my sanity really really loves that she's found that thing!!  I think it's the greatest thing ever, and I'll deal with whatever issues she has with that later on down the road if it becomes a problem.  For this full time working, full time stay-at-home Momma, I couldn't be happier!
  • tried, tried, tried all week long to roll from her back to her front, and on Monday she did it all by herself!!!  She stayed on her belly for 15 minutes before getting frustrated that she couldn't roll back the other way.  We're working on trying to get her to roll from her tummy to her back soon - I don't want it to be an issue at nighttime when she rolls over to her stomach.
  • can hold herself up on her arms on her tummy.  She can also shift herself around in a circle to get to her various toys (I set them all up in a circle around her and make her reach for them.) on her tummy.  She does this regularly on her back too.
  • weighed in at 15 lbs 9 ounces at breast feeding support group.  After I weighed her I realized she had a dirty diaper, and she was still fully dressed, but holy cow.  That's NINE ounces in less than one week!!
  • went to The Music in the Park with Aila on Friday.  They were playing gypsie music, and Kalia was good with the actual music, but as soon as the singers started singing, she got her sad lip and started crying.  Between all the girls (Ashleigh, Monica, and myself) and the Daddies (Mike and Chris), she didn't stay upset for very long, but it was quite funny!  She loves playing down at Aila's house!
  • loves loves loves outside.  On Saturday evening she was fussy, and we went up to the park with Kodi and did a picnic style dinner out there and Kalia was the happiest baby just kicking around and looking up at the trees.  Kodi was pretty happy too!
  • went to the neighborhood playground for the first time.  She wasn't sure about most of the things, but she did like it when i sat on this little chair thing that went round and round and round.  She laughed!
  • went to storytime at the library on her 17 week birthday and decided to let all of the other little toddlers know what she thought of the story!!  She squealed and laughed and smiled at the other babies and mommies.  Good thing she's cute!!
  • outgrew all of her 3 month clothes.  Her head is too big and her torso is too long!  I think she has my small feet though, she can still fit into newborn sized socks.
  • put herself to sleep for bedtime for the very first time on her 17 week birthday night.  She was so tired, but neither one of us could get her to calm down enough to sleep, so we calmed her down, turned on her light on her mobile and turned on the actual mobile and left.  It took her about 30 minutes, but she found that magical thumb of hers and it worked like a charm!!!  Yay!
  • laughed and smiled a lot.  It was a great week!
Daddy helped with these pictures - he made her smile and I snapped away!

Just wait for the bonus pictures - it was a great week so I took entirely too many pictures!!

      1. So when's the big day when you start solid foods? Once you start those, you won't feel as much like a baby food machine and she'll definitely start sleeping through the night more so. I found feeding Kaylyn rice cereal before bed in a bottle with the breast milk helped keep her tummy full through the night and sleep longer. My advice on solid foods would be to start with vegetables only...get her liking all that stuff first and then slowly introduce the yummy sweet fruits. She is so cute! I have a new picture of her each week on my desktop computer at work and everyone says how cute she is.
