Happy 4 week Birthday Kalia!

This week, Kalia :
  • Outgrew quite a few of her newborn clothes (including her onesie for the photo shoot...we're onto a size small instead of a size newborn!).
  • Had her first mis-adventure with Mommy and Daddy.  We got caught in a rain / lightening storm that snuck up on us during our nightly walk.  Luckily, Grandma Hoskins was down visiting and came to the rescue.  She showed up in Chris's truck with the car seat.  We ducked under someone's garage awning to get out of the pouring rain.  Kodi was thoroughly confused.  Grandma was driving Daddy's truck, and he got to sit up front with Daddy.  Kalia was just concerned about her milk as soon as she got home :-).
  • taught me that I love my hair dryer.  One night when she wouldn't calm down to go to sleep, I sat down with my feeding pillow and latched her on while I dried my hair and she fell asleep by the time I was done.  I now take a shower before latching her on for the last feeding of the night, and if she's being somewhat fussy, just go ahead and dry my hair while putting her down.  So far, works like a charm!
  • went on her first walk in the baby bjorn with just Mommy and Kodi.  We only went a little over  a half a mile, but we made it without any cry-fests or immediate feeding fits.  Woot!
  • has a love for the magic changing pad.  For some reason, she doesn't cry at all on it.  She can be throwing a fit, and once she gets on that changing pad, she calms down.  We've started bringing it into the kitchen to put her on immediately after bath time (which she loves by the way).
  • has a love for the sound of waterfalls.  She calms down when we're outside during the day, and we finally figured out that it's when the pool pump is running, so the water is cascading from the spa to the pool.  She calms immediately down when we walk down to our neighborhood pond and the water fountain is shooting off from there too.
  • survived her first 4th of July.  We didn't do much, but the neighborhood lights off a ton of fireworks which Kodi was none to pleased about, but it didn't seem to bother Kalia at all.  For a little bit, we all three sat outside (Kodi hid under the bed) and she fed while we watched fireworks being set off over our house.  It sounded like bombs going off, and she just kept going in and out of sleeping / feeding.
  • has become little miss independent.  Last week she wouldn't let me put her down...this week when she was fussing a lot at night time, I set her on her blanket on the floor while I was putting my breast feeding pillow on and she immediately calmed down.  She's still not a huge fan of too much tummy time, but she likes to kick and punch around while laying on her back a lot!
Mommy also learned on her 4 week birthday night that if she's moving at kicking and making noise at night, I don't necessarily need to go get her to latch her on.  I waited to see if she would go back to sleep, and she did!!  It wasn't a restful night of sleep because I was continually awake with every noise seeing if this would be 'the time' she needed to be latched on (her cries make me cringe, so I try to get her hooked on before it comes to that), and she went an entire 4.5 hours before she let out one little 'feed me now' wail, and I latched her on.  The next go was almost 3 hours, but I got her up for that one because I could hear there was a dirty diaper that needed changed.  I'll let her sleep with a wet one, but not a dirty one.  Daddy, for the first time in awhile, felt pretty good when he woke up.  He semi wakes up with all of the feedings, so he slept quite a bit last night!

Now Mommy just has to learn how to sleep through the grunts. Kalia grunts a lot trying to do the 'great escape' as we call it to get her arms free from her swaddle.

Enough with the words, here's pictures from her 4 week photo shoot.  We were quite active on her 4 week birthday, so I only got to do one take this week.  She was pretty calm during it, which you would think is good, and it's better than crying...but I like it when she's got her legs and arms flailing because she does funny face expressions during those times.  She's becoming so much more alert and aware in the last few days!

It was over cast on Tuesday too, so the pictures aren't quite as bright.  But you can still tell how adorable she is!!!

    1. She's definitely starting to look less like a newborn and much older. You must be keeping her well fed. Hope to see you guys again soon. =)
