Happy 34 week Birthday Kalia!

This week, Kalia :

  • weighed in at 19 lbs at breast feeding support group.  She's into a lot of her 12 month clothes already!
  • pulls herself up on anything and everything...including random people.  Anytime I take her anyplace new, she takes a few minutes to warm up, and then just takes off.  If you smile at her, she thinks you're okay.
  • has officially started babbling.  She will occasionally make the ga ga noise, says ma ma ma ma and ba ba ba ba a lot, and started to make the da da noise on her 34 week birthday.  She doesn't really associate anything with her babbling yet, even though I make a big deal everytime she says 'ma ma'.  She just thinks I think she's funny.
  • went through a horrible teething night on Wednesday night and was up every two hours.  On Thursday I decided she wasn't getting enough milk, so I pumped and started feeding her rice cereal with milk mixed in with her food.  I also got her an amber necklace that's supposed to be a natural aid for teeth pain (read here to learn more :  http://hyenacart.com/inspiredbyfinn/mt/713/14913/What-is-Baltic-Amber-How-Can-it-Help-Us).  Some of the girls in one of the play groups swear by them.  I got it Thursday afternoon and Kalia slept from 540 p.m. until 4 a.m.!  I don't know if it was more milk or the magic necklace, but I'd do the hokey pokey 300 times to get that kind of sleep around these parts!  She did well on Thursday and then sort of okay on Friday, and then ...
  • ate blueberries for the first time.  I think these are causing her bad stomach issues.  On Monday she pooped ELEVEN times.  She woke up to strain to poop quite a few times from sleep.  We're cutting those out of her diet and are hoping that's the problem.
  • has decided she loves to make Mommy and Daddy play fetch.  I guess it's payback.  While she's eating in her high chair, she throws her toys over the top and then smiles at us.  After a couple of seconds she stops smiling and starts hollering...she wants her toys back!
  • likes to feed Kodi off of her high chair too.  She likes to rub her hand in her food, smear it all over her tray, and then hold her hand out for Kodi to lick.  She laughs, laughs, laughs.  Both of our kiddos think this is great!
  • decided that independent play while at volleyball at Monday night was for the birds.  She made it through one point of the first game before she started hollering.  The old guy George picked her up, which she was okay with this week (no dirty dipe - yay!).  She was a little bit much for him though...she thought his glasses were cool and needed to come off of his face and into her mouth.  The guy Bill we play with had a strained knee, so he went out and held her and she chewed on her Sophie and watched Mommy and Daddy play and was really well behaved for the rest of the three games.  She doesn't have stranger anxiety...she just has to warm up to people for about the first 5 minutes, and then if you smile at her, she thinks you're fun!
  • went to story time on her 34 week birthday and after warming up, thought it was fun fun fun to crawl at mach 100 and get into everything.  She tried to knock over the easels with big art on them, used anyone and everything to pull herself up on, and thought the art work that was hung lower needed to be hit and pulled on.  Thankfully she didn't ruin anything!  They people there said they've never seen a baby crawl so fast.  She made a lot of friends though with pulling herself up on everyone!
  • started jumping up and down while holding onto things when she's excited.
  • rolls her tongue a lot...she babbles, squeals really loudly when she gets excited, or rolls her tongue.  Contrary to what all of yall think :-), she gets the loud squeal from her Daddy.  When he gets home from work those two squeal and yell back and forth at each other.  I need to teach Chris how to use his inside voice, hehe!
I think I say this every week, and every week I think it gets more impossible...but the pictures were the hardest thing this week.   After Chris got home, we went for another round.  It was a bit easier with him holding her down and being there to catch her when she decided she was all done, but ... well, you'll see!

I kept tossing her back (literally tossing) into the pillow and sitting back and snapping a picture really quickly and then catching her as she'd crawl off the chair.  She knew what she was doing and thought it was really funny to give Mommy such a hard time!

So I tried pinning her into the chair / pillow by wedging her head into the corner of the chair, which she also thought was hilarious for about 2 seconds before she crawled off again.

And then when Daddy came home, we tried again.  He had to literally hold her down every time, so Daddy is in these pictures too!  She is such a silly girl and thought this was a really fun game!

It is hard to keep our little cruiser still these days!!

  1. She is getting so big! I can just hear her laughing in all these pictures. =) That necklace is an interesting idea, I'll have to keep it in mind even though it might not look quite as cute on a boy, haha.

  2. My dad will love to hear that you and Chris are playing fetch! He is always asking me when Maddie will be old enough to play fetch with us. Is this a grandparent's ammusement?
12 month clothes already?!?!? She is getting so big!
Hugs and Kisses from her Aunt and Uncle :)
