- actually waves hi and bye. Before she'd just hold out her hand, now she opens and closes her fist. She does it to anyone and everyone. We'll be walking through a store and I hear people talking to her and it's because she's waving to them. She's a very friendly girl, just like her Momma (one of my best friends (Hi Jenny!) used to make fun of me for waving and saying hi to every single person in the hallways when we were in high school.).
- says a few actual words, and knows what they mean. She says "eye" and points to your eye, says "hi" when she waves, says "all done" ALL of the time, and says "Daddy" when we're talking about Chris. She uses her words more when it's just her and I, but I put her in the bed the other morning with Chris and she said Daddy just as clear as day, which Chris thought was the coolest thing.
- favorite two words are all done. The sign for that is to turn your hands back and forth, but she just opens and closes her fists like she does for hi and bye right now. She generally says it when : she's in the car and she's ready to get out (about 5 minutes after she gets in)... she's at the park and she's tired...I'm in the middle of changing her diaper...I'm trying to get her dressed...I'm trying to clip her nails...it's time for her to eat and there's no food on her high chair yet, just all of the time. I still think it's cute :-), we'll see how long that lasts!
- loves to read her books with us. Before she just liked to take them off the shelf, but she likes to touch the pages, and press the buttons, and actually listen to the stories (so long as they're short) now. Anything that has texture or noise to go along with it are her favorites.
- did her first Easter Egg hunt on Saturday. I signed her up for the 0-3 age group at our Publix. We got there at 7 a.m. (!). There was a guy dressed in a Easter Bunny costume, and Kalia thought he should just go somewhere else. She did not like him!! They had the eggs all laid out for Kalia's age group in the meat department. She was by far the youngest, but walked holding my hand and picked up seven eggs all by herself. I'd tell her to pick them up and then put them in the basket and then give her a 'yay!!', and she thought it was great. We had an audience by the time she got to her seventh egg (something about that being the cutest thing they'd ever seen). I'd been working with Kalia on picking up the plastic eggs and putting them in the basket all week long, so I was really proud that she did it on her own! Chris didn't believe she could do it and thought it was silly we were signed up for it, but was one proud Papa when she was picking them up! Ahh...the little things.
- went to her little friend Reese's first birthday party, and thought it was great that Reese had so many new toys for her to play with. She was right up in the mix of the toy opening / playing the whole time. She looked like a giant there, she was the youngest crawler/walker, and the biggest!
- celebrated her very first Easter! We went to the 7 a.m. church service, which she did amazing at. She got a little tired and actually laid her head down on Chris's knee for part of the service. We were both like who is this baby, and what have you done with ours? She does not have down time ever! She took almost a 3 hour nap when we got home, then opened up her Easter Basket from the Easter Bunny and then headed out front to hunt for her Easter eggs. I might have gone a little overboard. I laid out 22 Easter eggs. After 20, she decided she was tired and done. She was mach 100 up until then though! And once we showed her there was goodies inside the eggs (cheerios, puffs, and gerber cookie things), she got her second wind!
- loves loves loves the pool. We go in the pool almost every day.
- still loves her bike seat. We also go on a bike ride almost every day.
- decided all week that her new wake up time is 5 a.m.. Sometimes she'll push it to 530, and sometimes she'll try at 445. We make her wait until at least 5. We're tired!
- has finally started going to sleep at night without crying or fussing. She is go go go all day long, and just really has a hard time settling down at the end of the day. After we do her bedtime routine (2 books, 3 songs), Chris says good night to her, and I sit in the chair with her and pat her back and shush her while rocking her. She squirms all around, chomps her hand, and fusses on me, but after 5 minutes (I count to 400), I get up and put her in her crib wide awake with her doll and bear on either side, put her blanket over her, and turn on her mobile, and she coos for a few minutes, and then goes to sleep. That extra 5 minutes of rocking is key. It doesn't matter what time it is, it works. She just needs a little help settling down.
- is allergic to cinnamon and canned chicken. I added cinnamon in her oatmeal to see if she would eat more than a bite or two of it that way, which she did, but she got hives all over her face and arms. They went away in a few hours, but no more cinnamon for her! For the canned chicken, I was making chicken salad, and gave her a few pieces of it, and she got hives on her chest a few minutes later. Cross both of those off the list for now!
- has outgrown most of her 12 month tee shirts. She can still fit into her 12 month dresses, but onesies are pushing it, and tee shirts look like belly shirts on her. Her torso is too long. We brought down the 18 month clothes. Pants are pretty big, shirts and onesies fit, and dresses are huge. Her 12 month jammies are looking pretty snug on her too...her little belly hangs over the pants and the shirts don't go down far enough. We'll probably have to retire those shortly too - boo!
We didn't get to these pictures until later in the day after Daddy came home from work, which Kalia thoroughly enjoyed!
"Hey Mommy, how come we can't wait for Daddy to come home every week? This is much more fun!!" |
Too many bonus pictures coming up shortly!
I can't believe she is saying things already...so exciting! When are you going to teach her how to say, "I love you Aunt Christina"? I see her teeth in the first picture..so great! Love ya! :)
